A common question that comes up after installing a Debian OS is how to keep it patched. Here we show you how sysadmins do it from the command line.
1. Add the debian-security to the sources.list file
For the Debian Buster release, add the following line. For other releases, replace buster with the correct release name.
2. Resynchronize the package index files from their sources
3. Install the newest versions of all packages currently installed on the system
4. Reboot
After the first time setting this up, periodic upgrades can be done by starting at step 2.
