Windows 10 upgrade stuck at high CPU doing Windows 7 update  XML

I am trying to upgrade my HP Pavilion laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and the Windows update burns high CPU.

The process is svchost.exe uses close to 100% cpu on this single core laptop. The hard drive light doesn't blink much at all. The fan is blowing loudly and is appears stuck at this stage for many hours.

This is preventing the computer from upgrading to Windows 10.

We observed a similar problem with a single core AMD Athlon 64 problem.

Microsoft pushed out a fix to address this problem as KB3102810.

If you happen to have Windows Update running, then installing the KB3102810 may be stuck. Go into Task Manager and kill the svchost.exe which is burning the cpu and memory.

Then restart the installation for the Microsoft Update Standalone Package -- Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu for the 64-bit version. After the install, you will need to reboot the computer. The next time you run the Windows Update, the cpu usage and memory will be low.
